LAHORE – As much as 80 per cent packed as well as unpacked milk is adulterated and contamination is posing serious health hazards to Lahorites, says data collected during five years by City District Government Food Department.
The alarming figure is still on rise despite the fact that the Punjab government notified pure food rules 2008 that are in line with the food safety measures in order to eliminate the sale of injurious and sub-standard edibles.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3, 2010: Pakistan, the sixth largest milk producer in the world, actually produces 17 billion litres per year but more than double that quantity of diluted, adulterated and contaminated milk is consumed in the country. Untreated milk is purchased at Rs20 per litre from dairy farmers but packed milk is sold by local and multinational companies at Rs72 per litre.
